I just bought 30 vintage Chinese dresses. Excellent condition dating from the 1950's thru the early 70's. Silk, cotton, wool, rayon -the prints are fantastic. Priced and ready to try on.
Reminds me of the Chinese film In the Mood For Love, set in Hong Kong, 1962. Actress Maggie Cheung wears a different cheongsam in every scene.

I stumbled upon a small and precious jewel in our nearby Temescal neighborhood last Sunday. If you haven't already been there, take a look at Crimson. Owned and operated by Allison Futeral and Laura Lambert, this little shop is amazing.

Filled with potted arrangements in one of a kind vintage vessels, precious bits from local artisans, and a nice selection of plants -succulents and tropical. The menu board said they offer special occasion floral projects too. I was there for a really long time. Gorgeous.

I have a friend who thinks that puppets are creepy? She once refused to get into our rental car in France because I was going to purchase a vintage clown marionette. She said, "Sharon, it's either me or the puppet. Only one of us is getting in the car with you." I left the beautiful antique marionette with blue glass eyes at the marche aux puce in Avignon. Sometimes when this friend is being particularly saucy, I wonder if I made the right decision.

Other times I see photos of clown puppets and I realize that she might not be alone in her aversion of these funny little men. I'm guessing that not all children thought that the flying monkeys in the Wizard of Oz were funny like I did?

I cook. It used to be that there were 6-8 people over for dinner on Sunday nights. Dinner revolved around a slutty meat dish, usually pork, with side dishes and dessert contributions from all involved. There were alot of people in the kitchen and this made me wish for extra counter space.

The shop has two commercial butcher block tables and one is reserved for my "meat themed" kitchen. What's the hold up? I don't want to move it. Let's see how long it takes me to follow through...

Buying trip complete. We dug through boxes with a camping lantern -picked out some stuff and loaded it up. Tons of fashion & craft books, ethnic textiles, vintage 70's clothing, Victorian walking sticks & parasols. Fun stuff. We'll have a sidewalk sale in a few weeks so that you can take home some of the treasure we acquired.

We got this contemporary collector doll to list on EBay. She has glass eyes, red hair and long luscious eyelashes. I usually take a shining to creepy dolls, but I think that this one could murder me in my sleep.

We are going on a big shopping trip this weekend. Having a silly shop like ours is fun, but a bit of a gamble when trying to find great things. We get a phone call from someone who is drowning in stuff, we hop in the truck with our gloves and a cup of Cole Coffee, and we drive the distance, hoping for the best. I think we might have a nice pile of treasure for you to dig through next week. I'll keep you posted.

TEPCO Pottery El Cerrito, CA

Technical Porcelain and Chinaware Company, once a major West Coast producer of restaurant ware, had contracts with the U.S. Navy, Army and Veterans Administration, and was at one time, El Cerrito’s largest employer. Tepco outfitted many local restaurants including the Polynesian themed Trader Vic's, the dinnerware for Berkeley Spangers' Fish Grotto, and Mel's Diner.

In operation from 1918-1968, designs that were deemed flawed or unfit for sale were dumped into the San Francisco Bay off of Point Isabel. Walking along the shoreline, countless pieces of china fragments can still be found on the beach. Pictured are pottery patterns green Banana Leaf, Spenger's Fish Grotto, a US Navy mug, Needles & Pine (my patterns at home).

OK. I'm going to publicly admit that I love creepy dolls. You've seen doll parts in the shop, but they are also all over my house- the more beat up the better. I find them at garage sales and in estate basements. There are dolly heads on my fireplace mantle, little legs in a bowl by the front door, tiny faces peering out between the spring blossoms in the garden. (this is actually a little sinister during the winter months when the greenery dies back). A friend from work once said that he felt anxious having so many little eyes watching him.
